Clamp it to the steel tailgate with magnets, charge it by sun, and drive.

The Pemacom P15 is a wireless reversing camera with a magnetic base, a 15,000mAh battery and a solar panel, so there's no wiring at the back. Stick it on a steel surface, plug the 7 inch monitor into the 12V socket or USB, and you've got a rear view. It suits hire trailers and anyone who swaps between vehicles.

Six magnets, rubber coated

The base has six strong magnets, so it sticks to a steel tailgate, toolbox or trailer and comes off when you're done. A soft rubber coating helps protect paint. The magnets only grip steel, so check your surface before you buy.

Inside is a 15,000mAh battery. The maker says a full 5-hour charge gives up to 24 hours of use. A 5W solar panel tops it up in daylight, and a 5V 2A USB-C charger is included. Turn the monitor off and the camera drops into sleep mode on its own.

About 10 metres of wireless reach

It uses a 2.4GHz digital signal with frequency hopping, and the monitor has dual antennas. The maker quotes up to about 10 metres, which suits cars, utes, small trailers and campers. For long caravans, a wired kit with a long cable is a better fit.

The Saturday tip run

The Saturday tip run

You've hired a box trailer for the tip run. Pop the camera on its steel frame, plug the monitor into the socket, and you can see the trailer behind you when you reverse up to the skip. Back home, it comes off in seconds. You still use your mirrors; the screen fills in what's behind the trailer.

170 degrees, tilts 90

The camera has a 170 degree view and tilts up or down by about 90 degrees. The 1080P picture is in colour, with night vision in low light. Adjust brightness, contrast and saturation, set the guide lines for width and height, and flip or mirror the image. The monitor has a sunshade and mounts on the dash or windscreen.

Two channels

The monitor supports a second camera, sold separately, for the side of a trailer or another angle. Switch between them on the monitor.

Questions people ask

Will the magnet stick to my vehicle?

Only to steel. On fibreglass, plastic, aluminium or timber it won't hold, and a steel plate isn't part of this kit.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 24 hours from a full 5-hour charge, per the maker. The solar panel tops it up in daylight.

Do I need to switch the camera off?

No. When the monitor's off, the camera goes into sleep mode by itself.

How far can the camera be from the monitor?

Up to about 10 metres, per the maker.

How is the monitor powered?

From the cigarette lighter socket or a USB outlet.

Can I add a second camera?

Yes. The monitor has two channels. The second camera's sold separately.
