The Yakry HC368 Pro is an OBD2 code reader and a 12V battery tester in one handheld tool. It's for drivers who want to know why the check engine light is on, or why the car's slow to start, before they book a mechanic. Results show on a 2.8 inch colour screen, with no app needed.

Plug into the 16-pin OBD2 port, turn on the ignition and read the codes behind the check engine light. Each code comes with a definition on screen. Once the fault's fixed, clear the code and the light. If the fault's still there, the light comes back.

Clip the copper clamps on, red to positive and black to negative, and pick a test. It reports cold cranking amps (CCA), state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), internal resistance and voltage, plus cranking and charging system tests. It works on 12V flooded, EFB, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral and GEL batteries.
Watch live data as graphs while the engine runs, handy for a fault that comes and goes. It also checks I/M readiness (whether emissions monitors have completed) and shows vehicle info, O2 sensor, EVAP and on-board monitoring tests, and freeze frame data.

It's a frosty Canberra morning and the car turns over slowly. Clip the tester on and you'll see whether it's the battery's cold cranking amps or the charging system. If there's a warning light on the dash too, plug into the OBD2 port and see the code before you ring anyone.
It supports all 10 OBD2 protocols. The maker lists 1996-on OBD2 vehicles and EU models from 2003. Look for the 16-pin OBD2 port, usually under the dash on the driver's side. The battery side also suits motorcycles, ATVs, boats and golf carts.

It suits a new driver, a road-tripper or someone who likes doing their own car jobs, and it's handy when checking out a used car. The maker states an 18-month warranty.
